Jasperware

Jasperware, Josiah Wedgwood's most well-renowned product, named after the natural stone, jasper, is a type of fine-grained, unglazed stoneware, which was created to resemble ancient cameo glass. In its natural form, Jasperware is white, and stained with various metallic oxide dyes. The first colour used was Portland Blue, as Jasperware was originally inspired by the Portland vase, but other shades such as black, yellow, sage green, lilac and dark blue were also used. Embellishments on the wares, made in separate moulds and then applied, were usually white and in the Neoclassical style.
